Research Associate
Megan joined the Halsden Centre in 2024 as a founding member of staff. Prior to joining the Halsden Centre, Megan worked at the University of Lincoln as a Research Associate in the Eleanor Glanville Institute and an Associate Lecturer in the College of Arts. Megan has also worked professionally as a copy editor and transcriber.
As an interdisciplinary scholar, Megan’s main research field is the medical humanities. Using narrative analysis of people’s lived experience, she explores how social and cultural prejudice can influence patient-practitioner interactions, medical decision-making and the care patients receive. Megan’s PhD examines different types of texts to understand how representation impacts cultural understandings and perceptions of minoritised groups of people.
Megan specialises in undertaking co-created research using tailored methods with participants that are often difficult to reach to evaluate the lived experience of diverse groups of people. Her unique approach brings interdisciplinary research skills into the EDI space, putting lived experience at the forefront of all research. Megan’s research offers an innovative way to understand cultural and systemic barriers that prohibit meaningful inclusion. Grounded in ethical and trauma-informed approaches, her research provides accessible outputs that can be utilised by organisations to review their policies and procedures to ensure their environments are equitable and inclusive. Megan is highly experienced in conducting one-to-one interviews, focus groups and running workshops and has a keen interest in research that produces real-world, impactful, and measurable outcomes.
